GRANT MAKING

What We Fund

The Healing Justice Foundation is a philanthropic movement committed to building a healed present and future, grounded in Black Joy.

Our Vision: May All Black Lives Be Healed, Liberated and Whole

Our major focus is  Mapping Black Joy to ensure that the Healing Justice Ecosystem for Black People is clearly identified, accessible and fully resourced. We recognize that we have to create, build, and attract resources for our own liberated version of the Red Cross for the Black Community, grounded in Black Joy.

The Healing Justice Ecosystem includes:

  1. Community + Cultural Healing

  2. Black Mental Health and Well-being

  3. Community + Cultural Healers

  4. Healing Places and Spaces for Black people

Strategic Grant Making and Fundraising

We are using the findings from Mapping Black Joy - Healing Justice Ecosystem Project to inform grant making internally and for organizations, institutions and partners (healers, mental health practitioners, organizers) committed to supporting Black Liberation through Healing.

Here is what we fund:

  1. Radical Self-Care and Healing Offerings

    a. We financially support healers and healing organizations to offer and curate spaces and opportunities to engage with culturally centered community practices that promote radical self-care, healing, liberation, joy, and wholeness for Black people and our communities.

    b. We provide access to funds for community members and organizations to obtain healing and radical self-care resources.

  2. Healing for the Healers - provide resources for healers and mental health providers to get rest and renewal, particularly from secondary trauma.

  3. Mutual Aid -  provide financial resources to individuals and families, and communities during times of crisis, grief, food insecurity, based on the principals of mutual aid.

  4. Healing and Radical Self-Care Training (particularly grounded in the Orange Method of Healing Justice) support folks through trauma-induced oppression, and to provide people, families, communities and organizations with the financial resources for training and educational resources needed to hold space and help Black people through their healing journey (mental health and well-being).

“The truth is that you already are what you are seeking.”

Grant Opportunities

Grant rounds are currently closed. We want to be in partnership with people, institutions, organizations, families, and foundations to fiercely support the healing needs of Black people grounded in mutual aid with a Black Liberation framework.

The Healing Justice Foundation’s (HJF) primary means of community engagement is through healing and the belief that the people closest to the pain should be the ones to define the problems and recommend the solutions. Black people have always been the architects of their own liberation, and we are committed to meeting people where they are and providing them with the resources they need to advance their own healing. We believe that radical self-care and healing aren’t luxuries, but are necessities to advancing racial and economic justice.
